Two teenagers drown in Nawab Saheb pond

For the families, the news came as a shock

Hyderabad: Two persons drowned in the Nawab Saheb Pond near Pallecheruvu at Chandrayangutta on Sunday. Qizar, 17, and Qasim Ali, 19, entered the lake along with 10 others.

Police said that Qizar was a resident of Bhavaninagar in Talabkatta. He completed Class X in March 2015 and was preparing to join Intermediate. Qasim Ali is a resident of Sultan Shahi and was working in a cloth store in the Charminar area.

On Sunday at around 7 am, both the deceased and 10 of their friends went to play. When they reached Pallecheruvu they decided to swim and went to the Nawab Saheb Tank.

“Qizar first got into the water and Qasim followed him. While the others were about to get in both of them started drowning. Others who saw them drowning tried to pull them out but they could not,” said Chandrayanagutta SI Laxmaiah.

For the families, the news came as a shock. “He was planning to join college very soon. Even on Saturday he told us that he would join college from Monday,” said Qadir, a close relative of Qizar. With the help of neighbours and swimmers police retrieved the bodies and sent them for postmortem. Police registered a case.
