He made the call on Sunday addressing BNP leader Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir’s lawyer Khandker Mahbub Hossain at the hearing on a petition of state lawyers against the High Court bail for him.

A day earlier, BNP chief Khaleda Zia had said at a function on the Supreme Court premises that ‘judges are now more regulated than before’.

Attorney General Mahbubey Alam thinks the chief justice’s statement is a warning before possible actions against ‘this sort of unexpected behaviour’.

Coming out of the hearing, he told reporters: “What the chief justice wanted to say is that if unexpected and defamatory comments are made on the judiciary, the judiciary won’t hesitate to take actions against that.”

Alam said the chief justice was treating all neutrally and equally.

“Despite that, some political leaders are making adverse comments on the judiciary which is very unfortunate,” he added.
