Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray on Sunday launched a scathing attack against ally Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), saying that “corruption has become quite visible everywhere”.

The dig was aimed at several allegations of corruption and irregularities that have surfaced against BJP ministers in Maharashtra, the Centre, and elsewhere in the country, since the Modi government took over reins in the country. Thackeray did not elaborate further. But political analysts said that the veiled offensive again indicated that all was not well between the two allies. While Shiv Sena is a partner in the state government and is also a constituent of the Modi-led National Democratic Alliance, it has been vying to even occupy the opposition space in Maharashtra.

Thackeray’s offensive against the BJP came at a party function in Mumbai, where he distributed goods vehicles to the Marathi youth.
It assumes significance since Thackeray’s caustic remarks come at a time when senior BJP ministers in Maharashtra — Pankaja Munde, Vinod Tawde and Babanrao Lonikar — have courted controversy and face allegations of graft. Thackeray even claimed that the charges against Munde were serious in nature. Shiv Sena MPs Sanjay Raut and Arvind Desai have said that had Sena patriarch Bal Thackeray been alive, he would have preferred the BJP ministers resign pending probe.
