South Africa began their tour of Bangladesh with a comfortable win over the hosts, taking a 1-0 lead in the two-match series. Faf du Plessis won the toss and elected to bat first.
The South African side consisted of fresh faces with Aaron Phangiso, Wayne Parnell and David Wiese making comebacks to the side. South Africa were missing their regular pacers Morne Morkel and Dale Steyn. Meanwhile, Bangladesh handed a debut to wicket-keeper batsman Litton Das.
Quinton de Kock had a new opening partner in AB de Villiers. Bangladesh struck early and managed to dismiss the dangerman de Villiers. Quinton de Kock was the next man to go in the fourth over, falling prey to part-time spinner Naser Hossain. The captain along with JP Duminy began rebuilding the innings. Du Plessis lost both Duminy and David Miller in the span of 60 runs. Du Plessis managed to muster up 79 runs, hitting 8 fours. He was supported by Rilee Rossouw who scored 31 runs at a blistering strike-rate of almost 148.
Bangladesh openers Soumya Sarkar and Tamim Iqbal came out to chase 149. Both the openers were dismissed within the first two overs for a mere 13 runs. Shakib al Hasan and Mushfiqur Rahim fought hard for a resolve, but both of them failed to capitalise on their starts. Wickets tumbled at regular intervals as only 3 out of 11 players could enter double figures. David Wiese, JP Duminy and Kagiso Rabada claimed two wickets each whereas Phangiso, Parnell and Kyle Abbott all struck once.
