PATNA: After an undertrial prisoner was killed on Saturday in group violence at Beur jail here, police recovered iron rods, knives, a mobile phone, sim cards, gold jewellery, some documents and cash during a raid on the jail the same night.
Patna SSP Vikas Vaibhav said police also seized some documents related to railways’ tender, though the nature of these documents needs further verification.
“A mobile phone, two sim cards, five iron rods, six knives, gold jewellery and cash were seized from the possession of history sheeter Ritlal Yadav and others during the raid,” he said. Most of these items were recovered from a ward where Ritlal is lodged.
A jail inmate Chandan Bind was beaten to death in a clash between two groups of inmates inside the jail on Saturday. Two jail wardens have been suspended in connection with the incident. Police said the raid in jail has led to credible evidence against Ritlal. A case was also lodged with the Beur police in connection with the items recovered .
Vaibhav said two separate FIRs were lodged on Saturday evening with Danapur and Khagaul police stations in connection with extortion threats. “We were receiving complaints of extortion bids by the jailed gangster Ritlal Yadav. He is contesting Bihar legislative council elections. The FIR with the Danapur police station was lodged by the police as nobody came up to lodge an FIR against him,” he said.
