Iggy Azalea On Britney Spears Beef: ‘The Media Wants Us To Mud Wrestle’
Iggy Azalea insists she’s still friends with Britney Spears despite the apparent shade thrown her way recently. The “Pretty Girls” rapper is blaming the media for creating the mess in the first place.
As reported by the Inquisitr, Iggy Azalea blamed Britney for the poor sales of their collaboration track “Pretty Girls” because she claimed the star didn’t help promote the song enough.
“It’s difficult to send a song up the charts without additional promo and TV performances etc.,” Azalea wrote in a Twitter Q&A chat earlier this week. “Unfortunately I’m just featured …”
Azalea claims the comments were taken out of context and then accused the media of trying to stir up beef between her and Spears.
Iam honestly not surprised but still really saddened that the media is trying to create a “beef” between @britneyspears and myself.

We remain friends and i haven’t said anything negative at all about her. Does wishing we had promoted a single more make me the bad guy?

She even went a step further, taking offense to the apparent double standard that exists between men and women in the media.
i feel like the media wants women in music to get out and mud wrestle each other. As a woman i take great offense.

Women in the media should be able to have a grown up and subjective opinion without it being anything more than that. its disappointing.

Sentiments about a media double standard have been echoed by other famous female celebrities, specifically Ariana Grande, who posted a lengthy essay on Instagram detailing her struggles with the media. In her case, Ariana lamented how her interviews always focused around who she was dating and not her music.
“I have clearly not been having the boy questions in my interviews lately because I have come to the realization that I have SO. MUCH. MORE. to talk about,” Grande fiercely wrote. “I’m currently making the best music I’ve ever made in my life, having the best time of my life on tour with some of the greatest people I’ve ever known, working my ass off every single day, performing/creating for my babes and getting the chance to meet and hug my babes all over the world every day.”
What do you think? Are Iggy Azalea and Ariana Grande correct about a double standard when it comes to how women are portrayed in the media?
