'I don't want to chop up animal people' - Adorable Irish girl (5) explains she doesn't want to eat meat
This adorable video of a young Irish girl refusing to eat “animal people” could likely convince any meat lover to put down their fork.
Meet Indie-Rose, a five-year-old Dublin girl whose tearful speech about why she does not want to eat animals anymore will melt your heart.
Having asked to help with preparing dinner, the little girl is overwhelmed when she learns that animals have to die for people to enjoy meat.
“I really don’t want to eat animals – they’re so nice. Why do people chop them up? I don’t want to them to be chopped up,” she sods as her mother’s partner explains where meat comes from.
Asked why she does not want to eat meat, little Indie-Rose says that “animal people are nice” and that “farmers shouldn’t chop people up. I don’t want to eat a horsey”.
“But pigs are nice too, and chickens and cows,” she adds when told that people do not usually eat horses.
The video, which has more than nine million views on Facebook, left mum Nicola shocked, who said it was taken after her partner had explained to her daughter she did not have to eat meat if she felt so strongly about it.
“What happen beforehand was that my partner was preparing dinner and Indie wanted to help. He had gotten some turkey from the butchers, she asked who had chopped it up and that’s how it all started," she told Independent.ie.
“He only recorded the conversation then so he could send it to me while I was in work and make sure he was saying the right thing”
Three months on, and Indie-Rose’s stance on meat has held fast her mum said.
“She’s always had a soft heart towards animals, she wouldn’t even let me kill a fly or a spider in the house.
“And I would be afraid of spiders so I’ve to call her to come get rid of it. She takes it and always make sure it goes safely out to the garden.”
Having visited with a doctor to ensure her daughter would not miss out on any important nutrients, Nicola said little had changed now that Indie-Rose had committed herself to not eating meat.
“There’s been very little difference not having meat on her plate. Sure, we don’t eat it as much anymore either because it’s just easy to do one big meal for the family but that’s ok because we want to respect her choices.
“Doesn’t stop us from getting a cheeky takeaway after she goes to bed.
“We do have to explain to her sometimes that its ok for other people to eat meat because she’ll often come over be like ‘Why are you eating that?’
“We don’t want her to be one of those people who tell others they can’t eat meat. "She’s made her own choice and she has to respect other people’s decisions too.”
