Custom is a term vaguer than a whistle stop. Over the years, the custom scene has seen its ups and downs, but the early 2010s saw it flourish yet again. This 1960 Ford Galaxie Starliner coupe is a testament to what elbow grease and greenback can morph into.
Other than the ninja star-shaped 18-inch EVOD wheels, RK Motors Charlotte has a real treat in its inventory. The winner of multiple national awards, this old-timer two-door street rod costs $125,000 (€112,475 at current rates) and it's not that hard to understand why – it's 100 percent custom, down to the finest details such as the wheel lug nuts.

While the 4-door Galaxie was the high volume counterpart of the Chevrolet Impala, the Starliner model was in a class of its own back in the early 1960s. Check out the humongous curving rear observation window on the pillarless hardtop bodywork. You don't get that with modern cars while US-made oldtimers rarely feature such an extravagant body shell.

Animated by a Roush Performance 427SR V8 blunderbuss, the belly of the beast is teamed with a C6 3-speed automatic transmission with Gear Vendor overdrive. Highway cruiser or 1/4-mile warrior, this Galaxie Starliner can do them both. Thanks to a power rack-and-pinion steering system, Wilwood disc brakes, and a Currie 9-inch rear axle with 3.73-gear Posi-traction diff, it's also a good-handling machine.

But all of the hardware pales in comparison to the tastefully modded bodywork, finished in a custom PPG Raspberry Pearl paint, as well as the retro-modern cabin. This is the car a true petrolhead celebrates the summer with. With razor-sharp aesthetics, go-faster credentials, and modern reliability, who could say no to this one-of-a-kind Ford Galaxie Starliner with 1960s bling-bling and quirky Space Age traits?
