Govt seeks weekly progress of Sukanya Samriddhi scheme

New Delhi , Jul 5 (UNI) Giving a serious push to the Sukanya Samriddhi plan, the government has sought a weekly progress from the banks on implementation of the scheme aimed at promoting welfare of the girl child. ''The Government of India has desired to have a bank-wise and region-wise weekly progress report on implementation of Sukanya Samriddhi Account,'' the Reserve Bank of India has informed the banks asking them to furnish the data to the Finance Ministry. The NDA government had introduced the Sukanya Samriddhi scheme in December, 2014 under which an account can be opened with a minimum annual saving of Rs 1000 with annual ceiling of Rs 1.50 lakh. The tenure of the deposit would 21 years , while the maximum period for deposits is 14 years from the date of opening the accounts. The scheme offers a compound annual interest of 9.20 per cent with facility of tax rebates. UNI PC RN SV 0936
