Two persons, a mother and son from Chavara Kottankulangara, were arrested on charge of possession of ganja on Saturday after police allegedly found 1.5 kg of ganja from their house.
Chavara police sub inspector G. Gopakumar said they were also charged with intent to peddle ganja. The identity of the woman was given by the police as Rasheeda (60) and her son as Nazim (28). In the past, the house was raided several times by the police and the Excise officials following tip-offs about the mother and son peddling ganja. During such raids, Rasheeda feigned unconsciousness forcing the raiding officers to leave the scene quickly. But this time, the police got vital clues when three college students were found inside the house. On questioning, the students confessed to the purpose of their being there.
Though nothing could be initially found during searches, the police team later found a portion of the ganja hidden inside the undergarments Rasheeda was wearing. Mr. Gopakumar said Rasheeda then confessed that ganja was stashed in a container topped with rice.
CI Binu Sreedhar said Rasheeda sold ganja in paper packets priced at Rs.300 and Rs.700 for different quantities.
