Jagan demands Rs. 30 lakh for victims

YSR Congress chief Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy on Saturday demanded that Rs.30 lakh compensation be paid to the families of five people who died of electrocution at Urmilanagar in Bhavanipuram on the city fringes last Tuesday.

Consoling the bereaved families, Mr. Reddy wanted the government to provide job for at least one person in each family. Blaming A.P. Transco for the incident, Mr. Reddy wanted the department to ensure that such incidents do not occur again.

Five persons including a woman died of electrocution on Tuesday: Ganta Subba Reddy (50), his son G. Srinivas Reddy (20), daughter G. Laxmi Tirupatamma (24) and their neighbours – Tirupati Reddy (30) and Nagarjuna Reddy (20).

Mr. Reddy spoke to Chinnakka, wife of G. Subba Reddy, and Radhamma, wife of Tirupati Reddy, for about half an hour and assured them that YSR Congress would extend all support to their family. Later, he left for Nandigama to attend another programme. According to party leaders, Mr. Reddy left to Hyderabad by road.
