Missing case: Bench issues directive to police

July 05, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 06:03 am IST - CHENNAI:

A Division Bench comprising Justices S. Tamilvanan and C.T. Selvam, has issued a notice to the police on a habeas corpus petition filed by Palani of Ambur.

The complainant sought a directive to the authorities to produce in court his wife, Pavithra, who had gone missing on May 24. He told the court that he had filed a police complaint on the same day but a first investigation report was filed only on June 26.

Subsequently, there was widespread violence in Ambur after a youth arrested in this connection died in police custody.

Palani submitted in his petition that he suspected the role of Pugazhenthi and Saravanan, alleged traffickers, in the disappearance of his wife. The Sub-Inspector investigating the case asked him to approach a local magician to get clues, the petitioner said. “Though I named the suspects in the complaint, the police ignored it,” he told the court. The court will hear the case after two weeks.
