Nicholas Rodrigues, 90, former MLA and father of CPI (M) leader Simon Britto, passed away at his residence at Vaduthala on Saturday around 5.30 a.m.
He will be laid to rest at the St. Antony’s Church cemetery at Vaduthala on Sunday. Mr. Rodrigues entered the Assembly in 1987 as the nominated member of the Left Democratic Front after retiring from FACT. He was a serving as a member of CPI (M) Vaduthala branch.
CPI (M) Politburo member Pinarayi Vijayan rang up Simon Britto to condole the death of his father. Mr. Britto who is on an India tour has decided not to return to see his father for one last time.
“I left home seeing him alive and after taking his blessings. I don’t want to return to see his body,” he told The Hindu . He was with the Malayali community at North 24 Parganas in West Bengal when the news of his father’s demise reached him.
