Suresh C. Angadi, MP, has said that the State legislature session in Belagavi has not had a debate yet on the long-pending Kalasa Nala and Banduri Nala diversion projects and demanded that the State government take steps to evolve a consensus among the riparian States of Karnataka, Goa and Maharashtra.
He said the government should allow discussion on the projects on Monday to find ways and means to get early clearance from the Centre.
The project has been kept under abeyance by the Centre following opposition by the Goa government.
Mr. Angadi said here on Friday that discussion was not taken up in the first fives days of the session on these projects, which were among the major issues concerning drinking water requirements for the people of north Karnataka.
The government should impress upon the Centre to convene a meeting of Chief Ministers and Ministers of Water Resources of the three neighbouring States to arrive at an amicable settlement on sharing the Mahadayi waters.
