Renovated university stadium opened

: Minister for Industries and IT P.K. Kunhalikutty has asked the University of Calicut to submit projects of development in academics and physical education.

He was speaking after inaugurating the renovated university stadium named after the former Chief Minister C.H. Mohammed Koya. Mr. Kunhalikutty said the construction of a synthetic track would help boost physical education.

The stadium was renovated at a cost of Rs. 1.30 crore, sponsored by the Al-Abeer Medical Group, Jeddah.

Mr. Kunhalikutty inaugurated the pavilion, gallery, football field, athlete comfort station, chain-linked stadium fencing, and refreshment centre. He presented Al-Abeer director D. Jamsheed with a memento. Vice Chancellor M. Abdul Salam presided.

He described the involvement of the Al-Abeer Medical Group as a model for private-public cooperation in development.

Physical Education Direction V.P. Sakeer Hussain presented a report.

M.K. Raghavan and P.V. Abdul Wahab, MPs, spoke.

K.N.A. Khader, MLA, inaugurated a new irrigation system set up to maintain the turf. Pro Vice Chancellor K. Ravindranath welcomed the gathering. Registrar T. Abdul Majeed proposed a vote of thanks.
