Wayanad off-road race gets under way

The third edition of the Wayanad annual monsoon off-roading event began at Madakkimala in the district on Saturday.

District Collector Kesavendrakumar flagged off the event at the Vythiri Village resort at Vythiri.

The two-day programme is being organised by Jeep Club, Wayanad.

District Police Chief S. Ajitha Begum and Regional Transport Officer P.A. Sathyan flagged off events for diesel and sports utility vehicles categories respectively. A skill drive of four-wheel drive vehicles (petrol and diesel categories) will be held on a specially laid 7-km off-road track inside Eva Estate at Madakkimala on Sunday.

Close to 225 adventure motorists, including three women, with 100 vehicles from Kerala, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Punjab, Goa, and Maharashtra will take part.
