Jon Hamm Highlights Jon Stewart’s Vocal Talents on ‘Daily Show’
As Jon Stewart‘s tenure as host of The Daily Show comes to a close, the send-offs are just beginning. Tuesday night’s guest, Jon Hamm, appeared to introduce a special tribute dedicated to one of Stewart’s more underrated talents: his voice.
“Here’s what I like about you,” Stewart said to Hamm. “You’re the only other person on TV who spells ‘Jon’ correctly.”
“I’ve been watching you for 16 long, long years,” Hamm began while standing behind Stewart. “It’s your voice, Jon. Your glorious voice. It’s like Bette Midler, Barbra Streisand and Luciano Pavarotti had a threesome and then gave birth to the perfect set of vocal cords: yours.”
Following Hamm’s introduction, the show highlighted some of Stewart’s more memorable musical moments (and arm-heavy dance moves). From silly parodies of songs like TLC’s “Waterfalls” and impromptu sing-song deliveries of his jokes, the tribute compiled all the times the host “tried to teach the world to sing,” as Hamm noted.
Stewart announced his decision to step down from The Daily Show in February and will tape his final episode on August 6th. His successor Trevor Noah’s first episode will air on September 28th. Recently, the late-night vet opened up to The Guardian about his decision to leave his successful series. “It’s not like I thought [The Daily Show] wasn’t working any more, or that I didn’t know how to do it,” he said. “It was more ‘Yup, it’s working. But I’m not getting the same satisfaction.'”
Comedy Central’s site is currently streaming every episode of The Daily Show until promptly 7:17 p.m. EST on the day of his final episode for “Your Month of Zen.”
