25-year-old, ranked 68 in UPSC, only one to clear exam from Gurgaon

Prabhat Malik (25), who secured all-India rank 68 in the 2014 civil services exams conducted by UPSC (Union Public Services Commission), is the only person to have cleared the exam from Gurgaon. The results were announced on Saturday.

Malik, who secured rank 270 in the 2013 exams, is a serving IRS (Indian Revenue Services) officer and is currently undergoing training at National Academy of Direct Taxes (NADT) in Nagpur, his mother Sunita Malik said.

Though Malik is currently in Nagpur, he plans to visit Gurgaon next weekend to meet his family. “This time, I tried to focus on the areas that I did not prepare for the last time,” Malik said.

“After his selection last year, he was supposed to undergo a four-month training at Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration (LBSNAA) in Mussoorie starting August 2014. But he later sought exemption for four months as he wanted to give the exam another try,” his mother said.

An IIT Kanpur graduate, where he completed a five-year integrated MSc in Mathematics and Computing, Malik is also an NTSE (National Talent Search Examination) scholar.
