In a bizarre incident, the Civil Lines police have arrested a patwari for allegedly embezzling Rs 20 to be deposited with the Revenue Department as charges for making fard (deed documents). A case in this connection was registered in December 2012.

According to the police authorities, the incident came to light after an RTI application was filed by an advocate and complainant in the case, Sunil Malhan, a resident of the Putlighar area.

He alleged that the accused identified as Rajinder had forged fard documents of his residential plot in the Putlighar area and a house in the Bagh Ramanand area.

He said a case was registered at the Civil Lines police station in this connection in 2010. The police authorities said later, he filed an RTI application to find out whether he had deposited necessary government charges with the Revenue Department. However, it was not the case and, therefore, another case was registered in 2012. The departmental probe also went against him, said the police official. Rajinder, on the other hand, had claimed that he had deposited the amount along with the fine imposed on it with the department.
