Hyderabad: Distribution of free clothes to poor Muslims of Telangana by the government this Ramzan, is likely to be postponed either to July 10 or 12.

Chief Minister, K. Chandrasekhar Rao, on Thursday announced that the government has decided to distribute free clothes worth Rs 500 to each of 1.95 lakh poor families providing free meals for 1,000 people in every mosque identified in the city and districts on July 8.

The committee which was constituted to implement the scheme headed by Anti Corruption Bureau, Director General A.K. Khan in its first meeting felt that feeding of the poor and distribution of clothes on the same day would cause hardships for the authorities as well as mosque committees besides possibility of stampedes.

The committee has decided to convince the Chief Minister to take up the distribution of clothes either on July 10 or 12 to avoid unnecessary hardships and conflicts.

Sources told this correspondent that the committee has decided to distribute a saree, five meter cloth for kurta and pajama , a skull cap (Topi) to the head of the family and one kg of vermicelli to each of the family.

Sources said that the committee has decided to serve Biryani, Mirchi Ka Salan, Raitha and either Qubani Ka Meetha or Double Ka Meetha on July 8 and invited a hotelier of the city for negotiation and the hotelier agreed to supply each pack of food for Rs 155 to the identified mosques in city to feed the poor after Iftar.

After deliberations the committee felt that preparing food at one place and then transporting it to the mosques would be time consuming and laborious and decided to hand over the responsibility to mosque committees for preparation and serving the food on the day, which is also cost effective when compared with the rate offered by the hotelier, sources disclosed.

Sources pointed out that even though the Chief Minister, K. Chandrasekhar Rao announced that free clothes is to be distributed to 1.95 lakh families in the state the figure has reached 2 lakh families after the final estimation.
