Pakistan against translation of Islamic terms into English

PM Nawaz Sharif approved a summary prohibiting English translation of Islamic terms

Islamabad: The Pakistan Prime Minister, Nawaz Sharif, on Saturday approved a summary prohibiting English translation of Islamic terms meaning thereby the word “Masjid” would not be allowed to substitute with the English word “Mosque.”

Sacred Arabic names and words such as Allah, Masjid, Sala’at and Rasool are now forbidden to be translated into English as God, Mosque, Prayer and Prophet, as per the summary approved by the Prime Minister.

Religious scholars have appreciated the government’s move and stressed over implementation of the decision. Prominent cleric Mufti Naeem said that the decision is commendable but it should be enforced in letter and spirit. He appreciated the Prime Minister for taking the decision in the holy month of Ramzan.
