Rannvijay Singha: I don’t know what’s going wrong with me in Bollywood

Says actor and host Rannvijay Singha, as he talks about his not-so-successful stint in Bollywood and life post marriage.
HAPPILY MARRIED Television host and actor Rannvijay Singh Singha, who got married last year to his girlfriend Priyanka Vohra, is in a happy space. “I took my time and got married at 30. In today’s age, it is not the right age but the right person which decides when one should get married,”says Rannvijay, who was in Lucknow recently.

So how has life changed post marriage? “Before marriage, I mostly worked, came back home and then went for a basketball game.But now, I actually look forward to going home and spending time with my wife. But haan, mere ko patience ki bohot zaroorat hai now that I am married,” he shares candidly. Rannvijay’s wife, who was initially living in London, has now shifted base to Mumbai. “Priyanka was used to a certain way of life. But she is dealing with daily household issues, and also coping up with living away from her parents who are in London. So, I have to be patient with her,” says Rannvijay.
WRONG CHOICE? NAH! The actor has had a not-so-successful stint in Bollywood, but Rannvijay doesn’t know where he went wrong with his choice of movies. “I don’t know what’s going wrong with me in Bollywood. Main toh kare jaa raha hoon jo mujhe lag raha hai ki theek hai. My choices were not bad. When I was offered London Dreams (starring Salman Khan and Ajay Devgn), I was over the moon seeing the star cast, but it didn’t turn out to be a hit. In Action Replayy too, I had a great role. It was not a bad decision, but that also didn’t do well. Then I did Mod (directed by Nagesh Kukunoor), which I thought was the best film for me. However, the film was small, the release was small. I also did a film 3AM, which on paper, felt really good. But by the time it came out, many things had changed in it. Finally now, I’ve done Mango with Abbas Tyrewala, which also doesn’t seem like a wrong decision. But let’s see,” he sighs.
Any changes that he’s made in his choice of movies, post his films not doing well at the BO? “It is about the vibe that I get now from the makers when I hear the script. Also, mujhe ab second lead play karne ki zaroorat nahi hai,” he says.
NOT SO SMALL Successful on the small screen, Rannvijay is quite choosy about his TV projects. “All my life, I have been offered the infinite saas-bahu sagas. It was unbelievable money that I was offered for these shows, but I said no. Only if there is something finite, young and appealing in saas-bahu serials, will I do them,” he says, adding, “Like I got to do a lot of action sequences during the TV show Pukar. Woh action hero banne ka jo keeda tha, usey achhi tarah se ek baar mein satisfy kar diya maine,” he shares.
Rannvijay recently turned down the offer to host the recently-concluded reality show India’s Got Talent, which was eventually done by actor Siddharth Shukla. Defending himself, he says, “When you see Roadies, you see it as Rannvijay’s show. On IGT, the main man is the talent. Mera kaam kya hai wahan pe? Main ek amazing talent ko introduce kar raha hoon and then side mein khada hoon. Even for judging, there were three maharathis sitting. What am I doing on the show then? I don’t do shows for money. I love to do shows where I am part of the creative team and I am the judge.”
