Sankalp Bhoomi to become Ambedkar Smarak

Sankalp Bhoomi located in Sayaji Baug will be developed as Ambedkar Smarak. The decision was taken during a meeting of district administration on Tuesday under the chairmanship of district collector Avantika Singh.

VADODARA:Sankalp Bhoomi located in Sayaji Baug will be developed as Ambedkar Smarak. The decision was taken during a meeting of district administration on Tuesday under the chairmanship of district collector Avantika Singh.
Representatives from M S University’s Department of Architecture will also be included in the planning team of the project.
Ambedkar had joined the royal family in Baroda as their Dewan up on his return from Columbia.
He was in service of the royal family from 1916 to 1917. Before leaving the city to join the revolt against untouchability, Ambedkar spent five hours at Sayaji Baug. The area where is known as Sankalp Bhoomi by his followers.
Ambedkar, commonly known as Babasaheb among his followers, was offered a scholarship by the ruler of the erstwhile Baroda state. Maharaja Sayajirao Gaekwad III had famously offered Ambedkar a scholarship to Columbia University.
In June this year, the Vadodara district unit of the Republican Party of India (A) had demanded the city administration to build a park named after Dr B R Ambedkar as a part of the riverfront development project at Kalyan Nagar. They had also asked the authorities to install a life-size statue of the national leader as a mark of his memory.
