KORAPUT: A 15-year-old tribal student of a government-run residential school in Koraput die on Friday due to alleged negligence of authorities concerned.
The deceased student was identified as Ananta Balda Bhoi of Tolo Golur under Pottangi block. He was a Class VIII student of Ekalabya Model Residential School (EMRS), Pungar, around 30 km from here.
The school is being run by the ST and SC development department.
Parents of the student alleged that though their son had been complaining of stomach pain since Thursday, the hostel authorities overlooked the problem.
"Had my son been shifted to the district headquarters hospital on Thursday he could have been saved. The school authorities took the matter lightly and treated him at the hostel for which he died," alleged Balda Bhoi, father of the student.
Officials dismissed the allegations. "After the student complained of stomach pain on Thursday, he was treated at the hostel. When his condition aggravated, he was taken to Kunduli community health centre. On Saturday morning, he again complained of stomach pain and was admitted to Koraput hospital, where doctors declared him dead," said district welfare officer (Koraput) Trinath Rao.
"A police case has been registered and his body sent for autopsy," he added.
