Residents of Mysuru and tourists to the city may soon be relieved of the eyesore surrounding the Rangacharlu Memorial Town Hall in front of the famed Mysuru palace.

After watching mounds of construction debris and construction material piling up on the premises for the last two to three years silently, the Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) authorities finally woke up to the issue and began clearing the premises.

MCC Commissioner C.G. Betsurmath, who visited Town Hall with civic officials on Saturday, rued the slow progress of work on the construction of the multi-storied parking lot begun in 2011.

Dr. Betsurmath told The Hindu that he had set a deadline of August 15 for the contractor to complete pending work on the parking lot. “Though the structure is ready, it requires plastering and other finishing works. It should be ready before the start of Dasara festivities,” he said.

MCC's the Rapid Action team Abhaya was deployed to drain out the rainwater that had collected in the basement of the newly built multi-storied structure for parking.

MCC officials said it had deployed personnel to clear the premises. “The entire premises will be cleared in two to four days time,” said M.J. Ravi Kumar, councillor representing the ward.
