VADODARA: There was tension in Ghoghamba taluka in Panchmahal district after a boy and a girl belonging to different communities eloped. Goth village observed a bandh on Friday in protest against the incident.
The youth and the girl had eloped from Goth village of Ghoghamba taluka on Thursday afternoon. Family members of the girl complained to Rajgadh police regarding the incident.
The parents of the boy also reached the police station.
Sources said police tried to resolve the issue by saying that they will ensure that the couple returned home, but were unable to trace them. While the parents of the girl had refrained from registering an offence earlier, they did so on Friday. They accused the boy of taking away the girl forcefully and also stealing her jewellery.
On Friday, some people gave a bandh call at Ghoghamba. They also submitted a memorandum to Ghoghamba executive magistrate demanding strict action against the boy.
Rajgadh police sub-inspector S S Variya said the bandh passed off peacefully and added that attempts were being made to trace the couple, who are major.
