Coke Studio @MTV has achieved a cult status in the music canvas of India. Varied collaborations from artists across the country have brought a superb range of music and delight to people passionate about the craft.

In its fourth season, the tradition continues with singer Sona Mohapatra and musician Ram Sampath and their version of 'Rangabati'.

According to the description of video, 'Rangabati' is one of the most popular folk songs from the Sambalpur region of Odisha. Music director Ram Sampath and singer Sona Mohapatra (remember 'Mujhe Kya Bechega Rupaiya' from Satyameva Jayate?) came together to re-interpret the song.

Sampath chose to make it a bilingual conversation of Sambalpuri and Tamil. 'Rangabati' is mixed with 'Bande Utkal Janini', another Odia folk song that talks about one's roots and mother. While Sona and chorus take care of the Sambalpuri part of the song, the duo Tony and Rajesh from Dharavi, Mumbai sing the Tamil rap. The song also features singer Rituraj Mohanty.

'Rangabati' was recorded for the first time in the mid 70's by Jitendra Haripal and Krishna Patel with music by Prabhudatta Pradhan.
