Shooting camp hit by food poisoning
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The National Rifle Federation of India (NRAI) wanted to make optimum use of the facilities at the Vattiyoorkavu shooting range when it decided to organize a 14day national camp here which will conclude on July 6.
However, it is learnt that the camp has run into rough weather as a majority of the shooters were affected by food poisoning on Wednesday night.
Fifty six shooters, 10 national coaches, two foreign coaches and two physios are staying at the Udaya Samudra hotel in Kovalam.
Sources said that at least a dozen shooters were taken to hospital for treatment and Olympic medal winner Gagan Narang failed to turn up for training at the range on Friday.
Hotel authorities have sent the food samples to the lab for investigation. "It is difficult to say where the infection has come from. It could be from packed bottled water, vessels or even from the spices used," said a source.
