Security has been tightened at Khazi Mohalla locality in Bhadravati, that had witnessed tense moments on Thursday over rumours that the Hazrath Haider Masthan Shah Khadri Dargah there was desecrated.

According to the police, the chadar in the dargah was found in a disturbed state on Thursday morning. As the news spread, people gathered in large numbers and protested against the incident, demanding the arrest of those responsible.

President of the management committee of the dargah Dildar, and member of Bhadravathi City Municipal Council Murtaza Khan, were present.

The protest was withdrawn following an assurance from the police personnel to conduct a thorough probe into the incident. Forensic and finger print experts visited the spot. As part of the probe, the police have interrogated 15 persons, including those working at the dargah. According to the police, it appeared that the chadar was disturbed by a minor fire from a lamp placed there. The situation in Khazi Mohalla was peaceful on Friday.
