Nomads held for turtle hunting

A team led by Palode Forest Range Officer S.V. Vinod has nabbed a four-member group of nomads, who were allegedly engaged in hunting endangered turtles and killing them for food.

According to an official press release here, the arrested are Raju and Satyaraj of Kovilpatti, and Murugan and Muthu of Coimbatore. They will be produced before the Nedumangad Forest Court once evidence collection and medical examinations are over.

Tip-off

It was based on information from the Chirayinkeezhu police that the nomads were arrested. The release said that investigation had revealed that the accused were hunting the turtles and sending them to other States as well.
