Tahsildar arrested

Officials of the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption on Friday arrested Venkatachalam (52), Tahsildar, Alangudi, on the charge of having demanded and accepted bribe from a farmer Navaneethakrishnan for transporting sand.

The police said the official intercepted a tractor at Kovilur Samasthanam transporting sand without permit. The farmer gave Rs. 15,000 for getting the tractor and earth mover released. He wanted to move another load of sand on Friday, approached the official who demanded Rs.5,000. Based on a complaint, the DVAC arrested the tahsildar when he accepted the bribe.
