Two persons connected with Alapakkam accident arrested

The police on Friday arrested the truck driver involved in the road accident at Alapakkam that killed eight persons including three police personnel attending to relief and rescue at an accident site.

Police said K. Rajan (40) of Malapuram district in Kerala was arrested by a special police team in his native place and brought him to Villupuram.

The police also arrested M. Manikandan (42) of Malapuram district who surrendered before the Marakkanam police and owned responsibility for the accident.

However, preliminary investigations by the police revealed that Rajan was driving the truck on the night of the accident. Further investigations are on.

Eight persons were killed after a fish-laden lorry ploughed into two SUVs at an accident site at Alapakkam near Marakkanam on Monday night.
