Dredging of Cauvery channels inspected

As many as 254 works would be executed as a part of the dredging, repair and maintenance of irrigation canals and structures in the district at a total cost of Rs.10.88 crore ahead of the samba paddy cultivation season.

The works mainly included dredging of supply channels to a cumulative length of 291.49 km at an estimate of Rs.3.75 crore, repair of 107 irrigation structures at Rs.5.21 crore and 45 shutters at a cost of Rs. 1.92 crore.

The package included 74 works exclusively for the Cauvery sub-basin being executed at an estimate of Rs.3.41 crore. It included dredging of silt at 30 channels on the Cauvery sub-basin for a cumulative length of 99.60 km at an estimate of Rs.1.23 crore, repair and maintenance of 23 structures at an estimate of Rs.1.13 crore and repairing of 21 shutters at an estimate of Rs.1.05 crore.

Collector N. Subbaiyan, who inspected a few works in the Cauvery sub-basin, advised the officials to ensure quality in executing the works. He inspected the work on dredging the silt at Tirupanthuruthi vaikkal and its branches to a total length of 1,500 metre in Tiruvaiyaru. He advised the officials at Konerirajapuram vaikkal at Manathidal to execute the work without time over run. He inspected the channels near Swamimalai and Pazhavaru head.
