Belleville native Andrew Shaw brings the Stanley Cup back to Belleville for the second time in the last three years, Saturday, with a public viewing from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. in Rink 2 at the Sports Centre.

Shaw, 23, shared in his first Stanley Cup title with Chicago in 2013.

The Belleville West City Honda U18 girls Comets hosted the U17 Quinte West Wolverines in a late-week rep soccer contest at MAS Park. Belleville came out on top 3-1 with Hannah Wilson scoring all three Belleville goals for her second straight hat trick.

The Lions Drive for Operatoin Red Nose Quinte fundraising golf tournament tees off Saturday, Sept. 12 at Briar Fox. The four-person, best-ball format is $90 per player which includes golf, power cart, dinner and prizes. Fee for Briar Fox members is $60. Belleville's Cindy Nelles, a graduate of St. Theresa Secondary School and a former member of the Belleville Bulldogs, made her first career start for Canada in a 36-28 loss to arch-rival USA in the 2015 women's rugby Super Series, this week in Red Deer.

Canada, which is 0-2, wraps up its Super Series schedule Sunday versus England in Edmonton. Canada lost its opener to New Zealand last week in Calgary.

Nelles, a CIS All-Canadian and team captain of the OUA champion McMaster University Marauders, saw action at No. 8 and lock in the loss to the Americans. She has previously played for Canada on a 2014 tour of New Zealand and was on the national team roster at the 2014 Women's World Cup of Rugby in Paris.

Ladies softball

Amanda Keech tossed a two-hit shutout with 10 striketouts, plus helped her own cause at the plate with a two-RBI double to lead Napanee Midgets to an 8-0 win over Napanee Bantams in the Belleville Ladies Softball League this week. Kylie Morrow (4 K's) took the loss for the Bantams.

Along with Keech, top batters for the Midgets were Erika Trudeau with three singles and two RBIs and Liz McAuley with two hits. Alexis Trudeau and Gracie Grant counted the Bantam hits.

Frankford golf

More ladies softball

The Bob Clute Dealmakers scored seven runs in the first inning, then held on for a 9-5 win over Tyendinaga Propane in a recent Belleville Ladies Softball League contest.

Eve Rusaw (2 hits, 1 strikeout) and Kathy Lidster (3 hits, 2 K's) shared mound duties for the winners while Maddy Empey (9 hits, 0 K's) and Patsy King (1 hit, 1 K) shared the loss for Tyendinaga.

Top bats for BC belonged to Chris Constable, double, single; Barb Wood, double; Theresa Hoard, three singles; Kammi Jamieson, two singles; and Brandi Newlands.

For Tyendinaga, Empey swatted a double at the dish while Candy Sallans, Christine Publow, Bev Haight and King also hit safely.

Doug Grant Open

The ninth Doug Grant Open tennis tournament is scheduled for Aug. 21-23 in Brighton. Entry deadline is Aug. 20 at 11 p.m., at the following costs: Singles, $30; Doubles, $30 (per team). Competition will take place in men's and women's singles and doubles, plus mixed doubles. A portion of the entry fees will be donated to the Canadian Cancer Society in memory of Fay Pope and Dave Fobear. The event includes a barbecue on Saturday, Aug. 22.
