Eamcet counselling from July 8
HYDERABAD: The web counselling for Eamcet has been postponed by the Jawaharlal Nehru Technology University (JNTU), Hyderabad, by two days and will now start on July 8. The JNTUH has taken this decision after the high court adjourned the judgment on private engineering colleges’ plea against the university for barring dozens of colleges on Friday.
To help students make an informed choice, the university will be uploading details of all the affiliated colleges on its website.
“We will be uploading the images of the campus, details of the equipment, faculties etc on the website so that students and parents can make a wise choice,” said Shailaja Ramaiyer, in-charge vice-chancellor of JNTUH.
Students will be able to choose colleges in the first phase of web counselling from July 8-11. Similarly, the second phase of counselling will begin from July 23-24. Around 76,635 seats in 220 colleges will be available for the counselling. If the students wish to change their web options, they can do that on July 12 (first phase) and July 25 (second phase) respectively. The seats for students appearing in the first phase will be allotted on July 15 and in the second phase on July 28.
Several engineering colleges have questioned the way JNTU conducted the inspections and cancelled the affiliations. “The laboratory equipment as per the board of studies should be available in the fourth year. Our operations began only three years back and hence we don’t possess the equipment. The JNTU disaffiliated us citing lack of laboratory equipment,” said a senior official from an engineering college.
However, officials of JNTU, in a press conference on Friday, explained that there were a lot of discrepancies on part of the engineering colleges who have been disaffiliated by them. “During inspections, we found out that many engineering colleges didn’t follow the 1:15 teacher-student ratio as per the University Grants Commission and AICTE norms,” said Ramaiyer.
The JNTU authorities have decided to set up a monitoring cell to keep a check on the functioning of the affiliated colleges. “Inspection is a continuous process. Several college managements fudged records. Colleges have been asked to submit Aadhaar card details, PAN number and educational qualifications of all the faculty members,” said Ramaiyer. The classes are set to begin from August first week, informed JNTU officials.
