English, BCom, eco still open in third cutoff list

NEW DELHI: The third cutoff list issued by Delhi University on Friday night has shown a large number of courses still open for admission. Among the popular courses, English is open in 28 colleges, followed by BCom in 20, BCom (H) in 17 and economics in 16.
Among the North Campus colleges, Hindu, Hans Raj and Ramjas are open for admissions in nine popular courses.Among popular off-campus colleges, Lady Shri Ram College continues to admit students in courses like BA (programme), economics, English, history, political science and mathematics, while Gargi is open in BCom (H), English and political science. At LSR, courses like statistics (96%), journalism (97%), philosophy (92.25%) and Sanskrit (61%) are also open in the third list.
Deen Dayal Upadhyaya college has reduced its BA (programme) cutoff to 86%, while for English it is 94.5%, mathematics 95% (dropped by 0.75%) and 95.33% for physics, a drop of just 0.33%. At Satyawati College five courses are open for admission, including BA (programme) 87%-87.75% and political science 88.25%-88.75%. Among off-campus college where both B.Com and BCom (H) are open is Ram Lal Anand where cutoffs have dropped by 0.5% in each course and are at 95% and 96%, respectively. The BA (programme) cutoff is now 83% (down 1%).
Among the off-campus colleges where majority of courses have closed admission for general category is PGDAV where just mathematics (94%) and Sanskrit (48%) are open. At College of Vocational Studies BSc (H) computer science (92.5% for those with PCM and 97.5% without PCM) and history (85.5%) are open in general and reserved categories. Another college where majority of courses are closed is Swami Vivekananda. However, BA (programme) (78%), English (91%) and political science (87.25%) are still open.
There have been re-opening of courses as well, like in Deshbandhu College where English (91%) is back in the third list. Other open courses are history (85%), political science (87%), chemistry (92%) and physics (93%).
Meanwhile, the dean of students' welfare has written to colleges demanding full compliance with the admission guidelines issued by the university.
J M Khurana's June 29 letter to principals says: "The admission committees are advised to please look into the admission guidelines/rules carefully and follow them. It is hereby emphasized that if any admissions have been done in violation of rules, these will be treated as illegal admissions and the college will be responsible for any consequences thereupon."
The "violations" listed include granting admission to candidates who meet the cutoff but haven't filled OMR forms or haven't opted for those subjects in their forms; not enforcing the penalty in cases where the candidate has studied papers in which the practical component is over 30% or included an "non-listed" subject in best-four subjects.
