CHANDIGARH: After Khari Baoli, traders of Chawri Bazar and Sadar Bazar in old Delhi area, are also looking for land to relocate their businesses to the commercial belt of Sonipat district in the National Capital Region (NCR). Chawri Bazar is hub of sanitary and hardware items trading while Sadar Bazar is in an international market for clothes and other articles.
Haryana chief minister's office (CMO) confirmed that the government was considering proposals from the traders' bodies from these markets and it planned to create some space for them near Gannaur in Sonipat. A CMO official added that the
Delhi government's decision, following a court order to decongest the residential colonies converted into commercial areas, was one of the reasons behind the traders' search for space.
Moreover, loading, unloading and transportation of material requires huge space and resources. This is another reason for these traders looking at the NCR areas of Haryana. A good number of them already have their warehouses and godowns in Kundli area on the Delhi-Haryana border.
"We have some space in Gannaur. The idea is to provide good approach roads and connectivity to Delhi. Our aim is to have maximum commercial activities which could boost the state's economy and create employment opportunities," said BJP leader
Rajeev Jain. Her wife
Kavita Jain is minister of social justice and empowerment in Haryana.
Jain had facilitated the meeting of traders of Delhi from Khari Baoli and other places with Haryana chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar last month. Seeking allocation of 100 acres land in Kundli area of Sonipat district on the National Highway-1, the representatives of
Karyana Committee, led by
Vijay Kumar Gupta, had an hour-long meeting with CM Khattar and ministers O P Dhankar and Captain Abhimanyu.
