Corporators from the G/South ward, which includes Parel, reportedly locked a deputy chief engineer in one of the cabins of the ward officer as they were upset with the replies on the status of roadworks in the ward.
Kishori Pednekar, Sena corporator from the ward, said, “We had undertaken inspection of roadworks as Ganesh Chaturthi is nearing, but the officials were not giving us proper answers and beating about the bush, which frustrated all of us. The roads in the ward are in pathetic condition.”
The corporators said they snatched the official’s phone and locked him in for more than four hours. They opened the doors only after they got a surety from additional municipal commissioner SVR Srinivas, in-charge of roads and traffic department, Pednekar added.

When contacted, Sanjay Darade, the deputy chief engineer roads (city), denied the incident. “The corporators were only listing their issues and we have taken due note of their grievances. The reports of them locking me up in my cabin are false. There was no issue at all,” he said.
On Thursday, deputy municipal commissioner Ranjit Dhakane allegedly manhandled junior official Vijay Mankar owing to lack of cleanliness in Borivali. Municipal Commissioner Ajoy Mehta had called for an explanation from Dhakane on Friday and also asked additional municipal commissioner Sanjay Deshmukh, in-charge of the western suburbs, to inquire into the incident.
A senior official from BMC said, “The report will be submitted to the commissioner in a day or two, following which he will take action against the official.”
