Kuching rules in Girls’ U13, Sibu romps in Boys’ U11 at Unimas

KUCHING: Kuching dominated the Girls’ Under-13 competition on the first day of the CMS Sarawak Squash Circuit Samarahan Leg at Unimas Sports Complex yesterday when they secured three of the semi-final tickets.

Nathalie Sim blanked teammate Grace Ho 2-0 to book a semi-final clash with Tiong Yih Xin of Sibu after the latter dumped Kuching’s Alexis Sim 2-0.

The other all-Kuching semi-final today will be played between Eugenia Sulan (beat Tiong Wen Yen of Sibu 2-0) and Rachel Kong (beat Christabel Ngu, also of Kuching, 2-0).

In the Girls’ U9 contest that saw only four players taking part, Ashley Rogees (Kuching) scored her first win in the league when she beat Sibu’s Agatha Cheng 2-0 while Miri’s Kirshelya Ruhern opened her campaign with a 2-0 win over Grace Wong of Sibu.

Harith Danial of Miri, who received a bye in the first round, advanced to the semi-finals of the Boys’ U9 after beating teammate Goh You Min 2-0 in the last eight yesterday.

Harith’s next opponent is Wong Ri Yen of Sibu who beat Miri’s Ervin Goh 2-0.

In the other semi-final, Troy Sim of Kuching and Voon Yi Wei will battle for the right to play in the final.

Meanwhile, the Boys’ U11 competition saw Sibu claiming three spots in the quarterfinals: Wong Yih Kah beat Mark Lawrence 2-0, Tiong Yong Xiang beat Harith Irfan of Miri and Anson Cheng defeated Eugen Dady of Samarahan 2-0.

The other quarterfinalists are Hia Jia Rong and Voon Yi Yan of Miri, Ivan Chew of Kuching, Desmond Ong and Charoon Virakim of Samarahan.

The event is organised by the Squash Association of Samarahan.
