The posters show images of three men wearing masks of actor Mahesh Babu and the title gives out the plot that they are out to kidnap the superstar. If Mahesh is at the centre of the entire film, the rest of the characters — and there are many — have their own story to tell. It is the story of three youth — Aadarsh, Bhupal and Nandu — who have a huge loan to repay, and want to kidnap superstar Mahesh and use the ransom money to repay the loan.
Aadarsh carries an emotional baggage, he lost his mother and has constant fights with his father who has remarried; as a result he takes to wine, women and what not and finds himself cash strapped. His father is a producer and the shoot of their film with Mahesh is on. Aadarsh promises to introduce Bhupal to the star as the latter’s dream is to narrate a script and direct a film with Mahesh as the hero. The third youth is Nandu, his girlfriend ditches him for Aadarsh but all of them put their grouse behind to kidnap the star.
It is very obvious in such films you cannot have a super star make an appearance, albeit for a brief moment. They make do with visuals of Mahesh from his attendance at some promotional events. The boys unleash their master plan by first sneaking into the star’s caravan and kidnap Vennela Kishore mistaking him to be the star. He is a comedian who around the same time gets into the vanity van out of curiosity and soon finds himself tied with a ransom on his head. Now does the producer give in to the kidnapper’s demands knowing that the comedian’s presence is imperative to the movie shoot? Do the boys get the money, this is what forms the next half of the story. Debutant Sushant Reddy begins well, introducing his characters with clarity and a great blend of seriousness and comedy. Poonam Kaur’s presence is just not a glamour quotient, she in the short time given to her comes up with a genuine performance and all the four characters complement each other very well. The next half of the story threatens to get monotonous and just then Vennela Kishore steps in to bring the story back to life.
Everyone knows there will be no Mahesh but Vennela Kishore’s jibes on himself brings the house down. Tagubothu Ramesh, Fish Venkat too provide the laughs and Shraddha Das plays a gangster. The film is not without pejorative language, some double entendre by Shradda Das is shocking. A few other movie stars do make their appearance but that hardly is of any importance to the story, they don’t make a difference to story development. The climax gets a bit sentimental especially when Aadarsh finds himself hanging on the throes of death. Over all, it is a nice time pass movie, the entire cast with honest performances bring the script to life that threatens to sink intermittently. It is not a great movie, but go without expectations and you might not entirely regret watching the film.
