"Vinod Mehta's book is remarkable as it is engaging, rarely judgmental and based on solid research. Sanjay Gandhi, his life and death have always been shrouded in mystery, as has been his relationship with India's own Iron Lady and his mother, Indira Gandhi. I feel both challenged and privileged to be making this important film," said Hansal Mehta.

Mehta is awaiting the release of his next, Aligarh, starring Manoj Bajpayee and Rajkumar Rao. While Manoj will be stepping into the shoes of the late Aligarh Muslim University professor Ramchandra Siras, Rajkummar Rao will be seen in the role of a journalist. Aligarh is based on the real-life incident involving Siras, who was suspended from his job because of his sexual-orientation, and later found dead.

Sanjay Gandhi's biopic, untitled as of now, will go on floors next year after Mehta completes the shoot of his film Simran with Kangana Ranaut.
