"Shooting in Mauritius was a lot of fun. The food was great. The view was spectacular. White sand and blue water," says newcomer Kyra Dutt, who is making her debut with Madhur Bhandarkar’s Calendar Girls, recalling an incident she will never forget. READ: Madhur Bhandarkar: I feel like the flag-bearer of women-centric cinema "We shot on a private island. It was just us five girls on that island. A yacht dropped us off and went back to shore. The crew was shooting us from a chopper that kept circling above us with the camera," she says.
At one point, the chopper turned and went away and the girls were left wondering if they had been stranded on the island. "We were a bit worried, but they returned after a few minutes. We all laughed. It was quite crazy," she says about the practical joke that Bhandarkar’s team pulled on them.
Kyra is all praise for the director. "Madhur sir is a dream director for any actress. Today, we speak of women’s empowerment in the industry. This man set the trend way ahead of his times with his female protagonist driven roles. He understands human emotions so well that it reflects in the kind of realistic cinema that he creates. He never interferes in any scenes. He just let me be on the set of
Calendar Girls. He brought out that confidence in me. There is never a dull moment on his sets. It’s great energy every day."
