Depok, West Java (ANTARA News) - Students from the University of Indonesia won four gold medals, nine silver medals, and fifteen bronze medals at the 26th Biennial Intervarsity Games (BIG) 2015.

It was held at the University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong, from June 22 to 29.

"The students from diverse majors won gold medals in football and athletics," spokesperson for the University of Indonesia Rifelly Dewi Astuti said here on Friday.

The gold medal in football was won after the Indonesian squad defeated the teams from the University of Macau and the University of Hong Kong by the round robin system.

Moreover, in athletics, Indonesian students won gold medals in the women's category of the 100 meters, 800 meters, and 200 meters run.

In addition to the gold medals, the Indonesian team also won silver medals in athletics and swimming, while bronze medals were won in badminton, tennis, table tennis, athletics and swimming.

According to the spokesperson, the achievements of the Indonesian students proved that besides their academic capabilities, they also excel in sports, arts, and culture.

BIG is an international sports competition that is held among universities in the Asia-Pacific region.

Organized for the 26th time, six universities in the Asia-Pacific region participated in BIG 2015. These were the University of Hong Kong, National University of Singapore, University of Indonesia, University of Malaya, University of Western Australia, and the University of Macau (a special administrative region of China).

The 26th BIG in 2015 had eight sports events, including swimming, athletics, badminton, basketball, football, table tennis, volleyball, and tennis.
