Guddu Rangeela movie revolves around Rangeela (Arshad Warsi) and his cousin brother Guddu (Amit Sadh) who are trying to make a living in their crime-infested area.
During the day they run an orchestra and at night they turn informants for local goons. This fetches them easy money.
Although they are cousins, their characters are quite different which is evident by the way they get out of precarious, but funny situations.
The cousins are in fact trying to avenge wrongs done to them in the past by a local don Billo (Ronit Roy), the antagonist of the movie, 10 years ago. Guddu’s methodology is very upfront and brash while Rangeela has a matured and self-centered way of working and doesn’t want to be on the wrong side of the law.
While, Guddu is a womanizer, Rangeela has not moved on from the tragic incident involving his wife Babli (Shriswara) 10 years back.
Things take a turn when a common enemy asks Guddu and Rangeela to kidnap Billo’s sister-in-law Baby (Aditi), which also gives them a perfect platform to seek redemption. The situation takes an even more favourable turn when they find out that Baby is also out to seek redemption from Billo, who killed her sister. In all this there is a love story brewing.
Talking about the performances, Arshad is very convincing in his character, Amit is decent with his antics while Aditi has a small yet powerful role. Ronit definitely steals the show, as he is superb as a politician don.
Guddu Rangeela is loosely based on the Manoj-Babli honour killings case. It also touches upon the traditions followed by khap panchayats in Haryana.
The direction is tolerable and the dialogues are quite witty, but the music fails to impress except for the first song in the movie.
