Remove garbage in night, Mayor tells VMC

Mayor Ramgopal Mohley convened a meeting of Varanasi Municipal Corporation (VMC) officials to review the temporary night-hour cleanliness drive which was being conducted in densely populated areas across the city on a trial basis.

VARANASI: Mayor Ramgopal Mohley convened a meeting of Varanasi Municipal Corporation (VMC) officials to review the temporary night-hour cleanliness drive which was being conducted in densely populated areas across the city on a trial basis.
During the meeting, he asked the officials to ensure that garbage is removed from garbage points at night and to increase the number of resources, if required. He asked the officials to conduct cleanliness work in the areas as per the prepared road map so that work is conducted in a systematized manner.
He also asked officials of general engineering department get debris accumulated along some roads removed and to issue notice against those people who fail to remove debris.
To streamline the present sanitation mess of the city, mayor asked the zonal officers and zonal health officers to be in touch with their respective sanitary inspectors and monitor cleanliness drive in their areas virtually.
The zonal officers were also asked to identify waterlogged areas across the city and figure out the cause of the problem to find a permanent solution to it. Besides, he asked the garden superintendent to issue notice to departments who fail to remove uprooted trees felling in middle of the roads.
The mayor also asked the officials to beware and not allow installation of diesel pumps without seeking proper approval. He then asked the respective officials to gear up for the upcoming three-day Rathyatra Mela to commence from July 17.
