Bulldogs hope for double AFL celebration

The Western Bulldogs are hoping to give one of their top dogs Matthew Boyd a fitting celebration for his 250th AFL match when they play Carlton.

Matthew Boyd is hoping for a double celebration when his Western Bulldogs clash with Carlton on Saturday night at Etihad Stadium.

The former skipper marks his 250th AFL game milestone, while the Bulldogs are looking to consolidate their top-eight position on the ladder.

Carlton are 16th heading into the round but have rediscovered some form under interim coach John Barker, with both sides gunning for their third successive victory.

Boyd, 32, is yet to to make a decision on his playing future with his contract up at season's end.

He has been in All-Australian form again, relishing his switch from the midfield to defender.

Boyd said it was a great time to be involved with the club, who were flourishing under new coach Luke Beveridge.

"It's an exciting time to be at the footy club," Boyd said.

"At the moment, I feel fantastic and hopefully I can keep that going."

Regardless of his playing future, Boyd said he didn't think he would be around to mark 300 games, which skipper Bob Murphy was eyeing off.

Carlton have lost midfielder David Ellard after suffering a calf injury during their final training session.

Mark Whiley comes into the 22 as his replacement, while Clem Smith has been added to the emergency list players.
