The nationwide mobile number portability (MNP) has been one of the much awaited service in India. Until yesterday MNP service allowed users to change between operators within the home circles only.

With the new countrywide MNP, users will be able to switch operators anywhere within the country and still keep their existing number.

This will also help in linking the mobile to the JAM (Jan Dhan Yojana-Aadhar-Mobile) and allow transfer of benefits in a leakage-proof and cashless manner.

All the major mobile operators, including BSNL, Bharti Airtel, Vodafone, Idea Cellular, Reliance Communications (RCom) have confirmed the rollout of the full MNP service today. Others are also expected to follow suit.
