RANCHI: The Jharkhand high court on Thursday granted bail to All Jharkhand Students Union (Ajsu) Party’s Kamal Kishore Bhagat, who was convicted in a 21-year-old attempt to murder case on June 22.
Besides the former Lohardaga MLA, the bench of justice R N Verma also granted bail to Alastair Bodra, another Ajsu Party leader who was convicted in the same case.

“The bail has come as a big relief for the party. We have faith in the judicial system of the country and expect that justice will be delivered to us,” Ajsu Party spokesperson Deo Sharan Bhagat said.
A group of Ajsu Party leaders, on September 28, 1993, had barged into the chamber of K K Sinha, a renowned city-based neurologist, seeking donations for a political rally in Patna. But Sinha refused to pay and a scuffle followed in which Sudarshan Bhagat, an Ajsu Party leader, died. The former MLA was sentenced to seven-year rigorous imprisonment on June 22.
