Mango Mela from Saturday

The 24th Mango Mela will be organized by Haryana Tourism in association with the state horticulture department on Saturday and Sunday at Pinjore Gardens.

CHANDIGARH: The 24th Mango Mela will be organized by Haryana Tourism in association with the state horticulture department on Saturday and Sunday at Pinjore Gardens.
Haryana principal secretary (tourism) Sumita Misra informed that the mela will be inaugurated on Saturday at 6 pm by state tourism minister Ram Bilas Sharma. Kalka MLA Latika Sharma will also grace the occasion.
Misra further added that the mela offers an opportunity to see and taste best quality mangoes and indulge in cultural programmes, shop for handlooms and handicrafts and relish mouth-watering delicacies.

She said the main objective for organizing the two-day event is to encourage fruit growers to adopt latest practices to increase the mango production and quality, so that they may get maximum return from their produce by tapping domestic and international market.
Haryana Tourism Corporation managing director Sandeep Garg stated that with passage of time, the mela has become a major cultural event of this region, besides which the interesting competitions and enthralling performances make it all the more popular. Punjabi singer Sarthi K will also perform live on Saturday.
Among other special attractions, there will be yoga sessions organized for the first time during the mela, where visitors can learn different aasanas for inner well-being from a yoga expert.
On Saturday, receipt of entries of mangoes and mango products will start from 7.00 am. On the same day, the competitions for students like mango quiz and mango eating will start from 10.00 am. School students will also present interesting group dance performances on stage to entertain one and all.
