Cat Survives 28-Mile Ride in an Engine Compartment

HACKETTSTOWN, NEW JERSEY (WPIX) -- A Mars Chocolate employee called police after finding a fury hitchhiker trapped in the engine compartment of his truck Thursday morning.

The orange tabby had somehow lodged itself in the fan blades of the employee's Nissan truck before the car embarked on the 28-mile ride from East Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania, to Hackettstown, New Jersey.

Officers managed to free the adorable stowaway, which leapt unharmed from the engine compartment. "After a brief foot chase, the cat was caught by police," Hackettstown police said.

Police turned the feline over to an Animal Control officer at the scene.
